Princess Anne visited the school on Tuesday and officially opened the new building that I have been in since the beginning of August. You just wish your school was as cool as mine that royalty comes to visit. ;)
There was a small ceremony where some people talked about the new building and how it was to be a useful tool in teaching more veterinarians.
The Princess Royal unveiled a plaque that has yet to go up at the building. She also planted a tree out front of the building. I watched from the stairs leading to the second floor in true creeper fashion. If you are not sure who she is, she's not the man, nor the woman in red.
She toured the school just prior to this and stopped in during the GEP immunology lecture. There were well dressed men that were running around opening doors for her and her group.
Although she did not come until the afternoon, in the morning we had to show our student ID's to the security out front in order to enter to attend our classes. Security people (with ear pieces and suits and everything) wandered through the building and gave me a strange look as I peered at them over my laptop that was conveniently playing the new episode of Castle. And when she did finally arrive, we were kept back so she could enter with a photographer and camera man getting every possible image and angle of the entire visit. I did watch her leave with two cars and police escort before wandering back into the building to finish my classes.
It was all incredibly exciting! I feel so sophisticated to have been in the presence of royalty. However, my manners haven't changed, so they obviously didn't rub off...
