Suprise Visitation

We had an unexpected visit to my school today. You probably can't guess who it is, so I'm just going to leave you in suspense....

HRH Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh visited the campus today and stuck his head in on us students "diligently studying" (we were actually just playing on the computers, my group was watching some fun farm animal videos). I was among royalty! And it may quite possible happen again at the "official" opening of the Easter Bush site when HRH Princess Ann, Princess Royal may attend since she is the patron of the school.

And I could have gone to a school in the states.... How boring...

In other news I have a bank account finally! But my school check won't go through until Tuesday! (it takes 3 business days which here does not include Saturdays) Tomorrow: Bus Pass!

I also made tonight for dinner what I am going to call Poor American Student's Scottish Coleslaw. It's a kinda of catchy title. One of my flat mates was searching for lettuce, found cabbage instead and bought it and then in the next store found lettuce so I received a free head of cabbage. And since I <3 coleslaw I figured I'd make it forgetting that it is originally from the states and is among the things that hasn't migrated here enough to be easily found (along with root beer and Ramen noodles... and milkshakes...). So I bought some pineapple and salad cream and chopped it all up (because I am yet to be a proud owner of a grater or better yet a food processor) and mixed it together. It doesn't quite taste like coleslaw, which means I should go on a hunt for a few missing seasonings... and garlic because I own none and lets face, garlic goes in everything.

While I was shopping today, I found a bargain store that had 10 ft high walls filled with every type of kitchen utensil and cookware known to womankind and about half remotely recognizable to mankind. I do still need pot holders before I can safely use the oven (and in case there was any doubt, I have some personal experience to what happens when other items are substituted).

Tomorrow I really do start actual classes!

  1. Whoa, Royalty! you have been truly honored!

they don't have root beer??? how strange!

I went out to dinner with Noelle and her parents last night, and I ordered a pint of ale. I thought of you. and how the pints in Scottland must come in cooler glasses.

So your new mission is to get to a pub order a nice pint and take a photo of what they put it in. :D

  2. It's a good thing HRH didn't get close enough to see you watching the fainting goats video; he may have pulled the funding.

  3. lol I might get in trouble for posting pictures of that, Shell ;) but as far as I can tell, you have to order that much (I've been seeing your standard size beer) but I did see one of my classmates get a pitcher full (and I think he drank it all himself-still not the worst thing that happened this weekend: that I shouldn't post here but I'll tell you some other time).

It would have been interesting if he saw the lambing/calving video or the breeding videos.
